Heartfelt by Trudis Exhibition of Felt Artesania

A new artesania exhibition of felt art has opened this week in the Andalucia Soap Company shop by local artist Trudis (Gertrude Bouwens) whose exhibition preview attracted a large multinational crowd and resulted in several sales of pieces, all of which are unique, no two items are ever the same.

The exhibition, entitles “Heartfelt from Trudis” runs from the 13th November till the 15th of January 2011, and features uniquely crafted hand made felt art, bags, scarves, and felt jewellery in a range of attractive colours and styles.

Speaking to Ronda Today, Trudis explained that she prefers not to create all of her work in a single style like other local artists, instead she draws inspiration from whatever catches her attention as she starts each piece. As a result the exhibition showcases items reminiscent of tribal African art, tie-dyed hippy art, and traditional felting craftwork.

Starting early in childhood, Trudis got her initial love of craft art from her mother who would make costumes and felt hats using a variety of fabrics, and this is evident in the range of items made by Trudis who happily mixes wool felting with crochet, knitted items, and stitchcraft.

As a young adult Trudis learned pattern making and fashion design and subsequently taught workshops in sewing and designing, though it was the birth of her daughter her family’s move to Spain that has given her the time and motivation to really experiment with new styles.

“Heartfelt by Trudis” is a wonderful exhibition surrounded by an amazing array of perfumed air from Andalusian handmade soaps. All of Trudis felt products are made with 100% pure wool, still spring water, and natural unscented olive oil soap.
