In early September, the picturesque town of Ronda bursts into life with the vibrant colours, music, dance, singing, and local wines that mark the annual Pedro Romero Fair and Festival. During this time, the town dons its finest attire, creating a festive atmosphere that offers a rich blend of cultural and leisure activities for both residents and visitors alike.
One of the cultural highlights is the International Folklore Gala of Ronda, renowned as the oldest festival in Andalusia and one of Spain’s most prestigious. Held at the Blas Infante Auditorium, this event brings together performance groups from many countries, each showcasing the unique traditions and talents of their homelands.
The official program for the Pedro Romero Fair and Festival: 3rd to 8th September 2024
For me the best part is the parade that starts at 8:30 pm on Tuesday 3rd of September from the Hotel Reina Victoria and then the firework display over at the feria ground. (the feria ground is out of town not far from the fire station on the road towards San Pedro.)
A particular highlight of the festival is the grand parade (Cabalgata), where the Goyaesque ladies, dressed in traditional 18th-century costumes, take centre stage. These women, inspired by the paintings of Francisco de Goya, are iconic symbols of the fair and a tribute to Ronda’s historical heritage. Read more about the Goyesca ladies here.

The fair offers something for everyone. The bustling Feria del Centro in the heart of the town provides an array of activities, while the Municipal Pavilion hosts a variety of concerts, ensuring entertainment for all ages.
IMPORTANT: The prestigious Goyesca bullfight and other events in the Ronda bullring, traditionally held during the Pedro Romero Festival, have been cancelled for 2024 due to necessary structural interventions in the historic Plaza de Toros. The decision was made following detailed technical evaluations highlighting safety concerns that arose after a particularly challenging weather year. Read more about this here.
A bit of history about the Pedro Romero Fair and Festival
This festival is one of the most significant in Málaga province, with deep historical roots. It originally began in the San Francisco neighbourhood over 100 years ago, before moving to the Mercadillo district in 1881. In 1954, the September fair was officially named after Pedro Romero, the legendary bullfighter born in Ronda, in recognition of his influence on the art of bullfighting.
