“Complete immersion is fundamental to the understanding of a people’s culture. The ways in which we express and interpret these intentions vary from culture to culture – this is where “cultural misunderstandings” come from. Native speakers acquire this skill intuitively and unconsciously, but students learning a second language must develop it on their own. And an understanding of culture comes into its own when applied to practical language learning.
During the conference, we will talk about this, and take a look at some real-life and practical examples that demonstrate exactly why immersion is necessary for the development of social and cultural competency!
