History of the Puente Nuevo | Ronda, the City of Dreams in Andalusia, Southern Spain
With the name ‘Puente Nuevo’, or new bridge in English, many people assume Ronda’s famous icon is a recent construction. In fact the bridge was first proposed in 1542, though not completed until 1793.

I’ve been living in this lovely area of Western Andalucia for the last 20 years or so and dedicate most of my time to the running of English language tourist information websites for the towns of Cádiz, Ronda, Grazalema, the famous or infamous Caminito del Rey, and also Wildside Holidays, which promotes sustainable and eco-friendly businesses running wildlife and walking holidays in Spain. My articles contain affiliate links that will help you reserve a hotel, bus, train or activity in the area. You don’t pay more, but by using them you do support this website. Thankyou!
I recall as a 12 yr old visiting Rhonda with my parents. We stayed at the Parador next to the Bridge. This was in 1968. If memory serves me correctly there was a small restaurant inside the span where the museum is now.
