In Ronda news this week, a rare show of unity across party political lines within the Ronda town council has seen a Partido Popular (PP) motion to adopt the Plan de Optimización de Recursos de la Diputación on energy consumption approved unanimously by PSOE and IU councillors.
Currently the Ayuntamiento in Ronda spends around 730,000€ per annum on energy bills, but adoption of the provincial energy optimisation program would see this reduced by between 200,000€ and 300,000€.
The plan calls for an audit of power consumption and including the creation of a city wide database of lighting, electrical generators, and office equipment, along with suggestions for improvements, mostly related to replacing light bulbs with newer generation energy efficient bulbs, consolidation of energy contracts, and the installation of solar panels on certain buildings.
As part of the motion presented by PP, a special commission to be created to oversee the development and implementation of the plan, which will be chaired by the councillor for planning, María José Martín de Haro.
