Ronda is set to launch a Comprehensive Waste Recycling Centre, known as “Arunda Recicla“, named after the city’s ancient Iberian and Roman heritage. This initiative aims to revolutionise waste management in the region, addressing the growing need for sustainable waste disposal solutions for both residents and businesses.
A Sustainable Solution for the Serranía de Ronda
With a population of 50,632, Ronda and its surrounding areas have lacked a proper waste management facility, forcing businesses to travel long distances for responsible disposal. The new recycling centre will provide a local solution, reducing CO2 emissions and operational costs while promoting environmental sustainability.
The centre will operate under Circular Economy and Sustainable Development strategies, ensuring that waste is repurposed rather than discarded. This effort will also prevent illegal dumping and environmental damage.
Types of Waste Processed at Arunda Recicla
The facility will recycle and repurpose a wide variety of waste, primarily classified as non-hazardous industrial waste. This includes:
- Construction and Demolition Waste (C&D) – Materials will be processed into high-quality recycled aggregates for construction projects.
- Wood and Pruning Waste – Wood and plant debris will be shredded for use as biomass fuel or as raw material for composite wood boards.
- Metal Waste – Ferrous and non-ferrous metals will be collected, sorted, and processed for reuse.
- Bulky Waste – Large items such as plastic, cardboard, and paper will be compressed and transported for recycling.
- Electrical and Electronic Waste (WEEE) – Items like refrigerators, washing machines, and computers will undergo decontamination before being processed.
The centre will also include a public recycling point, allowing residents to properly dispose of hazardous household waste, including used oils, batteries, and electronic devices.
Vehicle Decontamination & Landfill Management
A dedicated vehicle decontamination centre will be established, where end-of-life cars will be dismantled, their components recycled or resold, and hazardous fluids safely removed.
Additionally, a controlled landfill will be set up for waste fractions that cannot yet be recycled, ensuring proper containment and environmental safety.
Economic and Employment Benefits
The project, developed by Plant Rent Hire S.L., will create:
- 30 direct jobs
- 75 indirect jobs
Priority will be given to local residents, contributing to the economic development of Ronda. The initiative aims to boost local incomes and support sustainable industry growth.

With a projected recycling and recovery rate above 95%, Arunda Recicla is designed to comply with strict environmental standards. The facility will:
- Prevent soil, surface, and groundwater contamination
- Adhere to national and regional Circular Economy and Waste Management laws
- Ensure responsible waste disposal while promoting resource reuse
