Due to severe damage caused by Storm JANA, the A-397 road between Ronda and San Pedro Alcántara remains completely closed to traffic. The closure affects the section between the Benahavís junction and the Igualeja road (MA-7304), making it impossible to travel directly between Ronda and the Costa del Sol via this route.
If you’re planning to travel to Ronda, here are the best alternative routes to reach the town safely:
- Málaga to Ronda via Teba and Cuevas del Becerro (A-357 & A-367)
This is a straightforward and reliable route from Málaga to Ronda, bypassing the A-397 entirely:
- Take the A-357 from Málaga towards Ardales.
- Continue on the A-367 through Teba and Cuevas del Becerro.
- Follow the road directly into Ronda.
- This route is fully open and in good condition, making it the best alternative for those coming from Málaga or the Costa del Sol.
- Ronda to Algeciras via A-369
If you are traveling from Gibraltar, Algeciras, or the western Costa del Sol, the A-369 is open and offers a direct way to Ronda:
- From Algeciras, take the A-405 towards Jimena de la Frontera.
- Join the A-369 at Gaucín and continue north to Ronda.
- This scenic mountain route is slower but provides an alternative for those approaching from the west.
- Sevilla to Ronda via A-375 & A-374
For travelers coming from Sevilla, the best route remains:
- Take the A-375 south from Utrera towards Puerto Serrano.
- Join the A-374, which leads directly to Ronda.
- This is the usual road from Sevilla to Ronda and remains unaffected by the recent storm.
